Table ordering

Updated 20 October 2026

QR code table ordering for guests already seated

In short: Each table gets a QR code. A guest who is already sitting down scans it, orders from their phone, and the ticket reaches the Chefzi app with the table number. This is not a booking for later.

Early Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deal: new sign-ups get 3 months free, with no setup fee. The deal ends at 23:59 on 1 December 2026.

When to use it

Use QR ordering for people who are in the room: a café lunch, a second round of drinks and sides, a table that would otherwise wait for a server to come back with a pad. It does not replace the door. If you want guests to request a table before they arrive, that is table reservations. You can use either one, or both. The reservation is a request you confirm. The QR order is food for the pass.

How a table orders

  1. Print a code per table. Place it where a seated guest can see it.
  2. They scan and stay in the browser. There is nothing for the guest to install.
  3. The ticket is tagged. The order shows the table number, so the pass knows where it goes.
  4. It reaches the Chefzi app. The same app as collection and delivery, on the phone or tablet you already have. No extra hardware.

The menu can be the one you already sell, with items switched on or off for the table channel. A dish that is sold out should be marked sold out before someone pays for it.

Payment

Optional online payment can be taken before the order fires, on the £29 plan, through Stripe. Restaurants on the £19 plan take cash, including cash on collection and cash on delivery. Chefzi does not add a commission on the order. The card processing fee, when a card is used, is Stripe’s.

What it is not

It is not a till, and it is not a kiosk. You do not buy a screen for each table. It is not a customer app in a store. It is not hotel room service. A guest at a restaurant table scans a code. That is the whole motion.

Sitting next to the website

The same restaurant can take delivery and collection on its website, bookings in advance, and QR orders at the table. One menu, three ways in. The Chefzi app is where the kitchen sees the ticket.

A busy service

Print the codes before the rush, not during it. A table number on the ticket only helps if the code on table 4 really is table 4. Walk the room once with your own phone and scan each code. If two tables share a code, the pass will send the food to the wrong seat.

Keep a few tables for walk-ins if you also take reservations. A comparison of published booking prices is in best restaurant booking systems in the UK. A full booking sheet plus a full QR room is how a Friday overruns. The reservation page is where you cap covers per slot. The QR code does not cap the room by itself.

Pricing

QR table ordering is included in the plan: £19 a month, or £29 a month with online card payments, per location, excluding VAT. No setup fee and 0% commission. See Chefzi pricing.

Comparing order and pay systems? The UK Orderbee product now sits with QikServe at The Access Group. Published prices and the gaps are on the Orderbee alternative. Phone orders, QR codes and kiosks are compared in automated ordering systems for UK restaurants.

Questions

Is QR table ordering the same as a reservation?

No. QR ordering is for someone already at the table. To let guests book a table before they arrive, use table reservations.

Do guests need an app?

No. They scan the code and order in the browser on their phone.

Where does the order go?

To the Chefzi app on the phone or tablet you already have, tagged with the table number.

Can they pay at the table?

Online card payment is available on the £29 plan, before the order fires. Cash remains available on the £19 plan.

Do I need extra hardware?

No. You print the codes. There is no separate order-taking POS to buy.
